«As you may have heard through the media over the last 12 hours there was an eruption of an undersea volcano off the coast of the island nation of Tonga (pictures attached) yesterday that caused a Tsunami warning for the South Pacific island nations of Tonga, Niue, Kermadec island, American Samoa, Samoa, Wallis & Futuna and Fjii.
In Fiji’s case the forecast point for the possible Tsunami waves was Suva at around 8am this morning. Suva our capitaly city which is on the Eastern side of our mainland, Viti Levu is 3 hours away from Nadi and other tourism centres of Fiji which are on the Western side of Viti Levu.
As a measure of precaution, all coastal schools and offices in Suva region has been closed for the day. This has also included all Government offices as their offices are close to the Suva waterfront.

We are pleased to advise that as of 9am this morning the Tsunami warning has been cancelled by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.

Businesses and tourism centres in Nadi and Western areas had continued to operate as normal with a beautiful sunny day here in Nadi.
